Why we want change
Young migrants are routinely and increasingly encountering barriers to justice and are unable to access public and private services, with policies continuing to extend the reach of border control into schools, hospitals, banks and homes. The hostile environment has resulted in young people having little or no choice, control or say in almost all aspects of their lives. This environment, along with institutionalised racism, has created a narrow public image of young migrants, one that focusses on either illegality or victimhood. We want to change this.
Our values
At the heart of Brighter Futures is a commitment to giving back agency and control to young migrants whose circumstances have left them disempowered and disenfranchised. We create safe, confidential spaces for young migrants to have their say, through member-led organising and campaigning.
Brighter Futures educates and informs fellow young people of their rights and entitlements and stand in solidarity with all young migrants. We are a community that helps build a future for younger generations, and we fight to make young people in our group leaders for change. We are a family.
